While our stupid leaders huddle next to a dirty power, we danced on the edge of tears, melodies and longing for new times .

Eye Contact
4ad, 2011

The music of Gang Gang Dance has always been special, some Once described as 'post all' Now what we hear has a more refined sound, after so much travel stellar seem to come to the mainland, you can see a continent, even one invented by themselves, are large and "Eye Contact" his fifth album should hit hard as the current kiss the cliffs in the winter gray.

New York quartet formed by Liz Bougatsos vocals and keyboards, Josh Diamond on guitars, bass and Brian degrades Jesse Lee on drums, dares to spread his music thus leaving none of the browser on your creating stimulating , the dizzy feel it from the first cut "Glass Yar" with 11 minutes of transit paranormal, from electronics contemplative to the more exotic psychedelics, through the foliage appears crystalline voice of Liz dancing on a bright city, the perfect blend of understanding and the necessary risk, they leave a footprint that is clarified seductive "Adult Goth" , sounds and civility, technological sophistication embedded in the heart Africanist and eastern melodic details that are introduced by an imaginary bridge, a country dance costume, singing again Liz is the means of contact, ethereal and palmist, adding the low vitalistic Tim Koth courtesy of Ariel Pink, temazo.

Albums like "Eye Contact" make 4AD again become the garden splendor, Gang Gang Dance had already gotten away with "Saint Dymphna" in 2008, but the brilliance of single "MandKilla" is another twist, a rhythm section operated by lust tropicalista electro-dance, pop transmitting chilling machinery multicolor. Then comes the spontaneous submersion "Romance Layers with the voice of Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, syncopated sound and spacious black rapture, seduction night and drink foreign. With "Sacer" return to the cosmology of New York Gang Gang Dance is now the source, a flash coming on noise, distant image looks across to join them all in a seat final, more refined savagery that makes us captive to the cave of healing.

Eye contact, falling in love.

Weird feelings before the new work of The Sea and Cake , which may well be regarded as an EP (mini-album of 6 songs) or the first installment of a broader concept, promising a new job later this year or early next. Again recorded Soma Studios in Chicago by John McEntire, drummer of the group, along with Sam Prekop Archer Prewitt and Eric Claridge are delivered to the romance of serenity away from its beginnings in Beefheart-ianos Shrimp Boat and perhaps winding with the new direction being taken the experiment of "Old Punch Card", which played with synthesized and landscaping in this album once again shows us that there are benefits to this kind of sounds like the owner of the album shows "The Moonlight Butterfly" , with these airs kraftwerkianos and minimalist. The rest of the disc moves through familiar places, more devoid of the bombast of "Oui" (2000) and "The Fawn" (1997), winning a lot more air reposado that "Everybody" (masterful job). The beginning of the disc is clearly mark the house with "Covers" and "Lyric" , as the final "Monday" , but the best of the disc is in the ten minutes "Inn Keeping" . This album is based on the most scenic of The Sea and Cake and focuses on the quiet, besides sounding perfect. As perfect as in the past have done. Even still another plate over The Sea and Cake, is something different and shows a certain closeness and difficult to explain. An album that in its apparent simplicity and craft, is where you wrap. Good if brief, twice good.

Enlace DUO MOON
Mazes

sacred bones, 2011

Moon Duo was formed in San Francisco in 2009 Ripley Johnson (from Wooden Ships) and Sanae Yamada crew holder. Initially inspired by the legendary duo of John Coltrane and Rashied Ali, the Moon Duo then leave other groups interested in having 'the story of the journey' as the target for its art ... Silver Apples, Royal Trux, Moolah, Suicide and Cluster. Using guitars primitive keyboards and languid vocals Duo Rock Space develops experimental and very narcotic. After a single 12 "Sick Thirst debut in 2009, the group made the acclaimed" Killing Ep Tape "for Sacred Bones, followed by the chaotic Lp" Escape "in 2010 by Woodsist.
And Moon Duo pushing history and has a new job on the street, this is the electrifying "Mazes" published in March from Sacred Bones Records again, from the first second we entered sedatives and cloud environments, for example "Seer" galloped upon layers of distortion and psychedelia landscape, this court has a guitar riff almost identical to "Revolution" style of the kings of Spacemen 3, Sonic Boom himself after working with 2 remix for this album. Sounds in constant alienation, separating our feet off the ground, smoke covers everything at times, a rugged construction and cleansing. Sanae and Ripley soon
hike in less elevated structures and more rockers as "Mazes" with that voice Ripley indolent Johnson, a shaman peasant expanding hypnotic sensations from his guitar. Also in "Scars" feels the influence of Sonic Boom in the treatment of keyboards, a slow drug that invites us to cross boundaries, reverberating synths between atmospheres acid, blood in the temple.
"When You Cut" is another amazing passage, with a very percussive as Moe Tucker of The Velvet Underground, a song that could be the alternative hit came from a distant planet beyond the Moon illusions surrounding Duo creates a vibrant music, a connection to the original dimension, "Mazes" is a feast for explorers of the sound of bands like Loop, Sun Dial, Dissolve, Spiritualized, Darkside or the aforementioned Velvet and Spacemen 3.

In Trance.

GROUPER
AIA: Dream Loss / Alien Observer

electric yellow, 2011

"Toska" is one of those words that is impossible to translate into English, Russian origin, its meaning is difficult to Concretely, you might characterize as the feeling of anxiety and spiritual distress without a particular cause, the great author Vladimir Nabokov has been described as a sharp pain of the soul, a longing with nothing to look forward. Although grammatically possible only together all those feelings in a Russian word, the experience is fairly universal and familiar to the writer. Many times the spontaneous desire coming out of nowhere, for no apparent reason is triggered by a song or a melody that somehow manages to play inside fibers.

Liz Harris, musically known as Grouper, is an artist from Portland who since 2005 has been creating very own musical style, a delicate blend of acoustic melodies, organic keyboards, hypnotic drones and a soft voice and haunting, this under multiple layers of reverb. In 2008 it appeared that Harris had reached the pinnacle of musical expression with the incredible "Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill", personally one of my favorite albums of the genre and a banner (either that is). However, this relative success was not enough, the expectations were through the roof.
It took 3 years since his last album to launch this new material Harris, AIA is divided into two discs, "Alien Observer" and "Dream Loss" and if I had to describe with one word ... well just read the first paragraph of this review. AIA is a mammoth 80 minutes next to reaffirm why Harris is the best at what he does, it is preferable to hear both disks continuously as they are narrative elements in common, yet each has its own personality and stand on their themselves. Although it is not possible to discern the most of letters, the AIA concept seems to revolve around the alienation, the feeling of not feeling comfortable with the current situation or to oneself, of yearning, not knowing what to that desire, to live in a constant state of melancholy .

"Alien Observer" is more melodic, their sound is similar to being in a street in winter, with fog settling on the corners while the wind hear the faint whisper of a ghostly voice, which is that Harris's voice has a disembodied quality, rather than dominate the instrumentation, works as a plug in the air.
This double production is a strong contender to be one of the best albums of the year.

SLOVAK REPUBLIC
Summer Pills

self-release, 2011

The mysterious group Houston, Texas, Slovak Republic appears from nowhere to present their first album self-released "Summer Pills", a shuttle to the dream-pop sound lazy and relaxed, like a battery-powered Slowdive post-rock, cloud and with a strange desire cosmopolitan, the 13 cuts on this board have spoken names of cities or countries in Europe, walking in Andorra, Barcelona or Auschwitz in a carriage decorated with flowers, warm and precious great detail. In this slow close
are deployed brilliant songs like "Paris In The Sp Enlace ring" , mantle pleasant female voice where the guitars seem to every time they will disappear in the middle of the cadences, only rescues us from the syncopated rhythm of silence and whispers, still see lights on the horizon, perhaps the keyboards come with an unusual vitality within the contemplative rocker. In "The Netherlands" sensitive dream to find the record of Neil Halstead, a voice that comes as a sweet memory of another time, placidly grazing on the plains, home electronics also "Stockholm Exchange" seems braid with Fine timidity of our beloved Denver (download first mixtape Denver), "Summer Pills" is all that and more, a meadow enchanted lovers stripped indie-pop songs which cradled the dead hour of Sunday, a radio playing in the bedroom and handed out to pasture wind and distance.

Bedroom and poetry.

SCORN
Yozzo ep

ohm resistance, 2011

again tied to the beat of the devil, breakcore amorphous claws Mick Harris and his gallows defiantly Scorn never rests and always leaves us condemned to his den flawed, in the torment of shear rate and dark areas, "Yozzo is a new step that down to this remote cave, but in short format Ep no longer interfere with that curious crack created in Birmingham, England, by former Napalm Death, Lull, Matera, Clang, Painkiller, etc.
We are facing another hearing experience overwhelms amid the post-industrial atmospheres. Minefield in four courts that do not exceed 20 minutes, but make clear that the musicality of Scorn still writhing in the primary chamber, electronic, dub and narcosis, dangerous depths against the roar of the storm. Devastation.

PREDATOR Predator

douchemaster , 2011

Here comes back the Frantic, well ... no exactly but the same is, the new group of these young punks with people Carbonas, Beat Beat Beat and such in their ranks. As expected after their wonderful EP Honest Man (one of my favorite hardcore albums in recent times) have nailed. Back Adolescents with type punk (and I mean it is the only group I've seen it get this feat, yes ... bridging the gap that there are no taps and everything is much more amateur) but this time with a difference. The roll is as darker, in fact in some songs have a dark super touch anything but fails to love them even more. Huge LP that is passed in a flash plasma and I'll put it back 10,000 times. For now, my LP favorite punk years, been slow to take it out from that and there were rumors that the Frantic were back but the wait has been worthwhile. Great album.
